Paul has worked in several areas of commercial art for 25 years. He studied historic decorative crafts (design) at Lincolnshire College of Art and Design/DeMontfort University, traditional fresco painting and plasterwork in Lisbon Portugal. He later taught colour theory and harmony (LEA INSET)and worked as a mural artist in Lincolnshire schools.
Paul has lived and worked in the UK, America and Europe. He has recently moved to Norfolk from central London where he worked for a specialist decorating company. His work there included gilding, polished plaster and paint finishes.
He occasionally runs or assists in the running of art workshops.
Polished plaster is used to create the above graphic art wall hangings. Polished plaster is a hydrated lime product containing crushed marble and pigment. It is manipulated using trowels and various other tools to create a wide range of patterns, textures and stone-like finishes.
All pieces can be re-made to order. Commissions undertaken.
Paul’s current work centres on the themes of narrative, sign and symbol and the fragmented nature of language.
He feels words and images are becoming more important and powerful than the physical world from which they originate.
He is concerned that through this intellectual superiority and remoteness, society (born of language) has the capacity to justify any atrocity.
Paul believes that the intellect functions best when integrated laterally with life; that the role of the intellect is to act in response to the needs of life, not as an abstract need unto itself.
